Overview
About
CASTECH Coat RBE 40/10 is a ready-to-use, cold-applied bitumen emulsion modified with rubber latex to provide a tough, durable and elastic coating. The cured film is weatherproof and resistant to aggressive ground salts.
Typical uses
- Tanking and waterproofing of concrete and brick foundations, retaining walls, bridge abutments, basements and columns
- Damp-proof membrane in sandwich construction
- Adhesive for bonding wooden flooring, insulation board, expanded polystyrene, PVC and cork tiles
- Curing membrane cum protective coating for sub-structures
Standards
CASTECH Coat RBE 40/10 conforms to the requirements of ASTM D1227 Type III, Class 1 and ASTM C309.
Benefits
Advantages
Key advantages
- Excellent adhesion to most building substrates
- Single component, non-flammable and easy to apply; tough impermeable film with good resistance to rupture during backfilling
- Resists | chloride | and | sulphate | attack; withstands temperature extremes without flow or embrittlement
- Sufficient elasticity to accommodate small movements and hairline cracks
- Suitable for damp and dry surfaces
- Forms a tough, elastic, seamless coating on drying
- Can be applied on vertical and horizontal surfaces

Application
Surface preparation
Surfaces should be sound and clean. Loosely adhering particles such as cement, laitance and rust scale should be removed by suitable means.
Application
Stir well before use. Apply by brush, squeegee or spray; when spraying, dilute with 10% clean water. Dampen hot, dry or very porous substrates with clean water before applying CASTECH Coat RBE 40/10; a priming coat of the product mixed with cool clean water in equal proportions is also recommended on such substrates. Where two or more coats are required, each coat must be fully dry before the next is applied; brush successive coats at right angles. Where screed or render is to follow, blind the final coat with clean sharp sand, allow to dry and brush off excess sand. Do not apply externally in wet weather or when rain is expected; protect freshly applied product from rain until fully cured.
Coverage
Depending on the dry film thickness required, apply at 1 – 4
m²/L/coat
- Waterproof membrane: two coats at 1.5 – 2.0 m²/L/coat
- Damp-proof membrane / vapour barrier: two coats at 3 – 4 m²/L/coat
- Curing membrane: two coats at 5 – 6 m²/L/coat
