CASTECHMORTAR FC
Solvent-Free Epoxy Fairing Coat
CASTECH Mortar FC is a hand-applied, two-component, solvent-free epoxy designed as a high-strength thin-section material for cracks, pinholes and surface irregularities.

Overview
About
CASTECH Mortar FC is a hand-applied, two-component, solvent-free epoxy designed as a high-strength thin-section material for cracks, pinholes and surface irregularities. Its smooth, thixotropic consistency allows application both horizontally and vertically, from feather edge to a maximum thickness of 10 mm. It has excellent adhesion to most substrates and reduces the consumption of subsequent coatings. It is supplied in pre-weighed packs ready for on-site mixing and use, giving consistent properties and performance.
Typical uses
Used prior to CASTECH flooring and coating products on small areas of chipped or damaged substrate, pinholes and other minor irregularities in areas subject to heavy traffic, impact and chemical exposure, such as warehouse floors and industrial applications. It can also be used as a general- purpose bedding mortar and adhesive.
- Filling pinholes prior to overcoating
- General reprofiling over large areas, up to 3 mm depth
- Sealing surface cracks in preparation for crack injection
Benefits
See the TDS for details.

Application
Surface preparation
Mechanically prepare the substrate to remove laitance, curing compounds and other loose material to provide a mechanical key for CASTECH Mortar FC. Surfaces should be sound, clean and free from loosely adhering particles such as cement, laitance and rust scale. After preparation, remove dust and debris. Priming: not normally required; ensure the substrate is clean, dry, sound and free from contamination.
Mixing
Mechanically mix all the resin components together until a homogeneous consistency is achieved. Part mixing at 2 : 1 by weight or volume is acceptable; however, mixing full packs is recommended to ensure consistency.
Application
Apply the mixed material onto the prepared surface using a scraper, spatula or putty knife, ensuring the void is completely filled, from feather edge to a maximum thickness of 10 mm. Above 40°C: store unmixed materials in a cool, preferably air- conditioned environment; avoid exposure of mixed and unmixed materials and equipment to direct sunlight; avoid application during the hottest time of day.
Curing
Allow a minimum of 24 hours to cure and lightly abrade before overcoating.
Estimating
Pack size: 7.5 kg. Coverage approximately 4 – 5 m² per pack as a 1 mm thick fairing coat. Coverage rates are theoretical; trial areas are recommended to establish practical consumption.
Limitations
Substrate temperature should be above 5°C and rising. Avoid application where the area may be subject to rain or moving water. Use within the pot life and discard unused material. Contact CASTECH for a project-specific method statement if required.
Packaging & storage
Storage & shelf life
Maximum shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture in original unopened packaging, in a dry environment away from direct sunlight, between 10°C and 35°C. Damaged packaging, high humidity or extreme temperatures may reduce shelf life.
Health & safety
PPE: Always use appropriate PPE including gloves, goggles and barrier cream. Precautions: Should contact with skin or eyes occur, wash immediately with plenty of clean water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately; do not induce vomiting. Ensure adequate ventilation or respiratory equipment in confined spaces. Do not expose to fire or naked flames. Additional information: Refer to MSDS (available on request).
