Overview

About

CASTECH Rel SB is a solvent based mould release agent for concrete formwork. It is supplied as a low viscosity amber coloured liquid. CASTECH Rel SB reacts chemically with cement to impart excellent release properties to treated surfaces. Concrete cast against surfaces coated with CASTECH Rel SB exhibits a smooth, hard, uniform finish. CASTECH Rel SB has no negative effect on the properties of concrete, nor will it impair the adhesion of subsequent surface treatments when applied at the recommended coverage rates.

Typical uses

  • Precast concrete industry
  • Release agent for plywood, timber, steel and plastic shuttering
  • Concrete laboratory moulds

Application

Surface preparation

All moulds must be dry, clean and free from rust, concrete, oil or other materials prior to application of CASTECH Rel SB. Moulds should be protected from dust storm or rain during

Application

CASTECH Rel SB can be applied by all manual methods including brush, roller or spray, or using a cloth wetted with the material. Apply in a continuous even film as thinly as possible, using a suitable nozzle size when spraying. Avoid excessive amounts to prevent surface dusting and sagging. Concrete can be cast immediately after application or several days later; however, moulds or formwork with absorbent surfaces must be re-coated if casting takes place after more than three days.

Demoulding

After use, the formwork or mould should be brushed or wiped clean of any excess dust prior to re-application of CASTECH Rel SB for the next use of the mould.

Coverage

The coverage rate for CASTECH Rel SB is 30 to 70 m²/litre when spray applied, depending on the smoothness and porosity of the formwork used.

Equipment Care

CASTECH Rel SB may usually be left in spray guns or sprayers without detriment, but with certain types there may be some softening of rubber seals with prolonged contact.
